Self-Esteem

Untitled_Artwork

A well-known psychological experiment demonstrates how body image affects people’s self-esteem.

In the experiment, the makeup artist fashioned a distinctive scar on the subject’s face and then secretly erase the scar without them knowing the mark is removed. Participants are then arranged to interact face-to-face with strangers.

Interestingly, most of the participants reported that they felt people have been rude and unfriendly in the conversation. They felt others keep staring at the scar on their faces, which made them uncomfortable.

Other related psychological research also shows that our self-image is significantly affected by our appearance, performance, comments, social standards, many external factors. However, putting too much emphasis on these external factors results in self-esteem instability.

Are you trapped continuously in self-doubt, feeling the need to prove your value to others? Watch out on Satan’s trick!

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”(John 10:10). Destroying our self-image is exactly what the devil wants!

On what foundation do you build your self-worth?

We may need to strengthen our will, diligence, and endurance to take on critics. But we don’t need to use the worldly standard to prove our values, for we are God’s unique creations!

“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” — 1 John 5:4
