The Plans of the Diligent lead to Profit

Growing up in a society that emphasizes academic success, I had been trained to make plans to conquer various exams and tests.

Fortunately, I have enjoyed the planning process quite a lot. It is often like playing games to think of goals, determine a scope, set deadlines, and break down significant milestones into smaller actions. I especially like the planning process of fitting these action items into a time frame. The process is just like playing Jenga. When building blocks are placed together loosely, the tower is quickly falling apart. However, when blocks are overly tight together, pressure builds between blocks and could damage the building also.

Do you enjoy planning as I do?  A 1979 study on students in Harvard MBA programs revealed that only 3% of the students have concrete goals for their future. Moreover, these students have a detailed execution plan to help them pursue their goals. Interestingly, these seemingly unnecessary actions enabled them to earn an average income ten times higher than their Harvard peers who didn’t have a concrete plan for their futures!

And you know what, God has taught us the benefits of planning through the Bible more than 2000 years ago.

Lord, help us understand the goals you have set for each of us.
Help us plan with the end in mind.
Supervise us so we could execute plans systematically.
Motivate us so we could taste the fruits of our own labour

“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” — Proverbs 21:5
