Escape the Debt Trap

Escape the debt trap

What is your view on “debt”?  While some people see debt as a necessary evil, a tool to help meet personal objectives, others try to block it out completely. People may have different opinions on the topic of debt, but not everyone fully understands the effect of being in debt.

Research in psychology and social sciences shows that the impact of being in debt is more than a financial figure. It is also significantly correlated to some of the common emotional or psychological issues, such as stress, frustration, anger, depression, anxiety, regret, shame, and fear.

The Bible uses distinct animal metaphors to illustrate our attitude towards escaping from debt:
“Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.”

Let’s ask God to help us carefully review our financial situation regularly. Instead of avoiding the issue with ignorance, let’s face it and try our best to escape the debt trap.

“My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger, … Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.”
— Proverbs 6:1&5
