Mary Chan graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the National Taiwan Academy of Arts (now known as the National Taiwan University of Arts) and holds a Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Studies from China Evangelical Seminary. As a freelance illustrator and writer, her works frequently appear in major newspapers. She began gaining recognition for her artwork during high school, winning awards such as the Honorable Mention at the Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition, Merit Award at the National Art Exhibition, and Third Prize at the Keelung Art Exhibition. At 19, she held her first solo exhibition in Hsinchu with painter Wu-Guang Dai, and her works were collected by private art collectors.

 

Artistic Journey and Exhibitions:

Began creating picture books in 2000.

2013: Solo exhibition at Haru Art Gallery in Tokyo.

2016: Picture book illustration exhibition at Grateful Café.

2017: Solo exhibition at Eslite Bookstore in Tian Yuan City.

2018: Participated in cultural and creative fairs and conducted a spiritual picture book workshop at Huashan Creative Park.

2019: Invited to conduct spiritual picture book workshops in London, UK, and Düsseldorf, Germany.

2020: Hosted the “Coming Home” painting exhibition and workshop at Eslite Bookstore, Tian Yuan City.

2021: Picture book illustration exhibition in Yilan.

2021: Invited to participate in the Asian Christian Visual Art Exhibition in Hong Kong and served as an advisor.

 

Recent Work:

In recent years, she has led spiritual picture book workshops, using art to heal and explore the depths of the human soul. Her picture books, “I Have a Tree” and “The Moon Walks with Me,” were twice shortlisted for the Hsin-Yi Children’s Literature Award. Her work “Dream Hunting” received the Honorable Mention in the Gengxin Literary Awards for Picture Books. Her books “Dinner Time” and “Grandpa’s Mysterious Bag” won the Owl Family Picture Book Award. To date, she has published over ten books.
